Does Bill Gates eat Dog Food?

Having a sharp techie / Geek background along with my Real Estate focus, even I am amazed in the land of technology that I get frustrated. REALTORS are asked nowadays to master PDA devices, the Internet, web site design, cell phones, and all kinds of software. But when it comes down to technology, nothing beats the frustration of a computer and Mr. Bill Gates' software operating system. His newest, Vista, while the best as far as newest generation, still has the ability to start up in a crash condition and it wants to take you through some screens to "restore" itself to an earlier state. The observation I have is "I" didn't do anything to the software, it just does its own thing. So in marketing they say the dog has to eat and like his own dog food to be successful. Do you think Bill Gates actually uses his own software? Are you all as frustrated with Microsoft as I am some days?

Email

I could probably shoot off an email to Mr. Bill explaining how much time he makes me waste but he is probably sitting in his den counting his billions or off at some charitable event with Melinda his wife.

Attention Magazine

Another creative idea I had was to take out a full page ad in one of those auto magazines with the bimbette on the cover and explaining my feelings about Microsoft software.

Surely while he's in the Jiffy Lube, the magazine will be on the coffee table and he'd pick it up and I'd get his attention.

But then again, probably his chauffeur or mechanic does the oil changes.

Bite Me Tee

My brain continued to ponder what else could I do? Perhaps send him a colorful promotional Tee shirt from yesteryear. Surely he grew up in the same era as me and would love the cutesy reference to Pacman and Ms. Pacman.

No??

Apple

Would threatening to become a (God forbid) an Apple user shake his tree?

Don't think so! They are still under 10% market share. Who's afraid of Steve Jobs?

Scream

I just wanted to

SCREAM !!!!

Blue Screen Fun

I wanted to tell Bill at least he could make his Blue Screen of Death error messages more fun.

The man needs to lighten up.

Wonder Woman

I longed for the good ol' days of the past.

Maybe days of just

PAPER AND PENCIL !!!

Web Cam

And speaking of dog food - I wanted to inform Mr. Bill who really uses the web cam at my house.

So much for technology.

I think I'm going out now to ride my bicycle WITHOUT my headphones or take a walk in the park and feed the ducks by the pond some bread crumbs.

Gary ~ Great graphics!  But if you piss Bill off, you probably won't get that check that Microsoft is giving out, as per the e-mail! ; )

Kathy: I'm not holding my breath waiting for checks to arrive in the mailbox from Bill Gates. What is mind boggling to me is that from the DOS days of 1984 through all the incarnations of Windows how riddled with bugs the software STILL is. And you can't turn on your PC like a television set YET! It has to go through this long boot up cycle. AMAZING!

You are one creative guy Gary, I stuck with XP when I got a new computer, but it is all still frustrating

Michael: I found Internet Explorer crashes less in Vista but the booting up in the crash mode is something new for me that didn't happen with XP.

Computer problems galore here!  Doesn't matter if it's XP, Vista, or what have ya....  All this time my computer was blowing up on me...I started getting a complex and thought me and computers/technology just didn't mix.  I was a jinx!

Glad to know it's not me.

Gary, I was laughing while reading this...I absolutely can't keep up and I've just about given up trying.  There's only so much information I can store up there :)  Cute post and very true.

Jody: Do you wonder how much cumulative time we all waste with computer problems? Some comment on lost productivity with surfing the web. What about computer problems?

Carole: I agree it's not easy sometimes.

Gary, I feel your pain and frustration having bought a new computer last spring when Vista was young and nothing worked with it!  At least today a few more things work somewhat better.  I think I waste at least 3 hours a week trying to do or undo something... maybe more maybe less.. so far Im afraid to count the time.  :)

Funny!!! If you find him, give him an earful from me as well would you? Thankfully, I haven't stepped up to Vista yet. I'm hoping all the kinks will be worked out by the time I need a new laptop/desktop. I'm not holding my breath on that though :-)

Gary, I love the "Bite Me" t-shirt!  We've all been there with Microsoft.  My son is looking at Macs for college because there is less chance of viruses and crashes.  I'm really diligent about firewalls and virus scans, but I don't want to do that long distance for my son.  Very cool graphics.

I love the graphics, although the wonder woman after makes me a bit nauseous...lol

IE 7 is a real pain and firefox does not work with some of my sites..arg!

Gail: Vista at about a year old they say is better than on Day One. But when it crashes on boot up that was a miffed moment for me.

Colleen: All the new laptops in the stores have Vista pre-loaded on them, so they don't really give you a choice anymore.

Elaine: Macs are great but you feel like you are so in the minority, especially for business use.

Vanessa: Sorry about Wonder Woman. It was my day to rant and I got carried away. I too have heard the Firefox browser is incompatible with some sites.

Gary, LROL. Fun post, although I'm sure you didn't mean it to be completely humorous. So how do you really feel?  :-) Hope your bike ride is relaxing!

Duane: It just wears me out when I think of all the time I "tinker" with software to get it to stop fighting me. I would think with man years of development behind it the stuff would be rock solid by now.

Gary,

Five versions of Vista - no way!

But hey, shift happens. I was without email or internet for the better part of two days. On the road. At a REALTOR convention

It's Bill Gates' world; we just work in it.

Gary, so true. It's probably much like the RE industry that changes daily. Hey, did ya go on that bike ride already? Grin.

Steve: What a great line, It's Bill Gates' world; we just work in it. Driving Netscape from 90% market share completely out of business should have gotten someone's attention. But nope, Windows IE rules.

Duane: I got away from technology for half a day and YES it was VERY refreshing!
