Attitude is Everything

In working around many individuals all day in the real estate industry you come across a wide range of personalities and temperaments. I wondered in general why some are happy-go-lucky while others can have such a dour look on the face at times?

Studies have been done in the area and they say like a thermostat we reach a natural level of happiness from birth but that only accounts for about half of how we are. The other half of our happiness is more in our control. About 10% is directly from our circumstances while another 40% is determined by our habitual thoughts, feelings, words, and actions.

In other words, MUCH of how happy we are is controllable by us. I've heard the phrase happiness is an INSIDE job. Noting this, it is a great reminder to all of us that

ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING !!!

Habit is a factor.  What we do on a regular basis?  Having the right friends whom you can pour your heart and soul to, while you are able to habitually be positive no matter what the circumstances.  Thanks for the reminder blog.  Hope you have a great year.  LU

Lu - boy does your comment resonate with me!  Having the right friends.  I did have some friends that were absolutely poisonous.  Always complaining, nothing was ever right, even if the sky was blue it wasn't blue enough.  I realized that it was bringing me down - I moved on.  I just couldn't have that in my life.  I am a huge proponent of seeing something positive in even the worst situations.  Sometimes it may be hard to see, but if you look really hard, you'll find it! Gary - great post and so true!  We control out attitude!

GARY - I think that this is true.  The hardest part is not letting the circumstances have so much power that the rest of our inner power to control things gets lost.

Sure is everything. there are always two ways to look at something and someone with a positive additude will always look at it that way!!!

Have you ever looked at the geezers with dour looks on their faces?  Ever wonder why they complain so much?  And then you see another... happy (jolly is the word that comes to mind).  Which do you want to be?

I'm going for jolly.

You are so right, Gary. Attitude is everything. Ponder this for a moment. The optimist created the airline, while the pessimist created the parachute.

Gary, no doubt about it! I see agents complaining that others are "lucky, when in fact the others are just more positive and keep putting one foot in front of the other...happily

It's easier to be negative and pessimistic.  It takes a stronger person to stay positive and see the good in tings.

Lu: Habits are where it is at. Good ones to develop. Have a great year too.

Julie: Soar with the eagles they say!

Leesa: They say with kids, they need to hang out with the "right" friends too. Very important.

Adam: So true. You have to work through the circumstances.

Charles: Very true.

Lane: Life's too short for frowns.

Jill: I want to build airplanes not worry about them falling out of the sky.

Colleen: Those who complain about others with luck just don't want to work hard.

Jody: Whining just comes natural to some.

Gary, This sure resonates with me--I used to work in an office filled with the sour ones; I don't think they appreciated having someone around who wasn't miserable like they were! Whew, it was such a relief to leave there :)

Not only is it in our control.... but 40% is due to HABITUAL attitude.  Habit!  Start doing it intentionally and over time... it becomes a habit.... both positive and negative.

As usual.... Gary...excellent point!

Carole: Wow, that old misery loves company gang. Get away from them you are right!

Martin: They say it takes about three weeks of repeated effort to make a habit, then you can cruise. Just 21 days and you are on auto pilot.

Richard: Make your day a great one.

Gary, it's completely true. And I agree with some of the other members commenting here in that attitude is contagious. Run away from those who are always negative and seek the company of those who share a positive vision of the world. Keep on smiling!
