Let Life Come To You

Scream PaintingA principle I've seen in real estate, sales, and life in general is:

LET LIFE COME TO YOU.

In that, I mean I have observed people beat themselves up over forcing outcomes. You prospect, you farm a neighborhood, you job hunt, you search for that "perfect" mate. And the results don't come fast enough, or in the amount or quantity you expect.

You sometimes feel like this famous SCREAM painting. I have concluded you have to let go and let life unfold. You can't entirely control the ways of the universe. I don't discourage going for it, and pursuing prospects, jobs, relationships, but it is the timing of all the results that is a bit out of your control. Many say everything in sales is a numbers game, but there are parameters out of your control. I say get comfortable with that part of the game.

Some prospects, jobs, relationships are not meant to be.  For sane living, tell yourself THAT IS OK. As a matter of fact it might be life telling you that something better is in store for you. Just SCREAM, and move on.

There are better things in store for your future.

Another good post Gary!  Let go and let GOD is a famous quote and probably the most difficult thing to master.  And you are right...letting go does not mean you shouldn't have goals and work towards them.  By letting go, we eliminate the worry and stress about what we consider the "perfect" result.  I find letting go actually brings me results far greater than my mind dreamed up in the first place.

Your absolutely right. Life is too short to live it stressed out over everything.

Gary,  Have to agree with you that there are many things that are out of our control.  You need to accept that and move on, as you say.

This is why I like you so much Gary....we hold many of the same beliefs. It's not easy, trying to remember that I only control my actions and choices, not the results, but I've found that by letting go of what I "think" brings me what I really want. If that makes any sense LOL!!

Renee: The Let Go and Let God is actually very freeing. I think we think we are Masters of the Universe, when in reality so little is in our control. If our heart or that of a loved one stops beating right now, our whole world changes.

Mary: You are right, giving up ultimate control is a big de-stresser.

Marc: You've got it. Many have not grasped this though.

Colleen: Also, we absolutely cannot control the actions of others. I think I tried pushing that rock up the hill for many years myself. You will end up getting more of what you want with that release of what you "think" outcomes should be.

Isn't it funny that often we think we just have to have something.  When it doesn't work out, we are sad. Years down the road we look bad and say thank goodness that didn't work out.  Live and learn. Thanks for another great post.

Karen: I think it all has to do with attachment to something which creates expectation. When it doesn't end up like we imagine we are disappointed. Years later, we say, good thing I didn't get what I wanted. It's funny isn't it? Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

Gary--The sooner you learn this in real estate, the better off you will be. The business can eat you alive if you don't learn to relax a little with things you cannot control.

Gary:  This is expressed so well.  If you are going to be in real estate in particular, you better learn to roll with the punches or you will become a very disappointed, disheartened and unhappy person.  It's the nature of real estate but then on a larger scale, it's the nature of life.  Let life happen.  Control what you can and let God control the rest.

Gary: THANK YOU! You just answered my latest painful thoughts about my own direction in life. THANK YOU! THAT'S IT!

Some prospects, jobs, relationships are not meant to be.  For sane living, tell yourself THAT IS OK.

Did you ever thought of collecting and publishing your writing? in a form of essay...It is brilliant and deserve to stay on the public bookstore for all to read...

Teri: Thanks for the advice. In sales, especially in real estate, you have to develop a tough skin and roll with the situations.

Donna: I sometimes call it having a deaf ear to the "disharmony" around you. Know you are doing the best possible at all times and that you can't control the actions of others. Be at peace with yourself.

Arina: I'm glad I can help you in any small way. No, I haven't thought of a book on essays, but that's a great idea. I know you can self-publish these things nowadays. You may have sparked another creative endeavor for me. My little ramblings are just observations in life, and life coming to you just helps in not pushing things beyond their rightful place in time. Some things are meant to be, others are not. I think meeting all the wonderful people like you and others here is a great blessing and was one of those meant to be's.

Gary, I have to agree with you.  Some things are just not worth getting stressed.  You have to let them go.

Hi, Gary - The letting go part is definitely hard to master but over the years I've come to the understanding that if it's meant to be, it will be.  It really is just that simple.  I still struggle from time to time but then I sit back and as God for a speck more patience... and he usually grants it.

What a great blog....  I appreciate it very much.  When we take the time to understand life, we will have much peace in knowing that good things come to those who wait.  May 2008 be a good one for you.  Lu

I agree sometimes we hold on so tight and are so tied to the outcome we do not even realize how stressed we are.

Gary, your "little ramblings" have much value.  Too bad a lot of these things we have to learn are learned best through experience, but what better teacher?  Thanks, as always!

How totally true and completely inspirational.  When we think of it, there are so few things we actually have control over.  Our own thoughts and actions are pretty much it.  So, scream and let it go is apt!

Roberta: Right on, who needs more stress?

Mark: I like the journey view of things you gave.

Jesse & Kathy: Letting go requires less effort.

Kelly: Hope I provided some food for thought.

Lu: Letting go does give peace of mind.

Diane: Right, everything is not about high activity.

Patricia: Very true. I'm glad I didn't get everything I wanted looking in hindsight.

Joey: You have to let go to free yourself sometimes.

Elaine: Experience is a great teacher. To shorten the learning curve learn from others experience.

Duane: Knowing what you can't change you can achieve serenity.

Renae: Great observation about only having control over our own thoughts and actions.
