The Gift of Touch

Hug a thonIn consumating Real Estate deals oftentimes there are hugs of joy that the process has been completed, a new house purchased, the search is over, a new journey has begun, and perhaps friends have been made.

The gift of our touch is vastly underestimated. Depending on our culture and our practice and our upbringing some of us are the more touchy, feely types and feel more comfortable with hugs than others. But throughout life there will be times when you too will need hugs. Times when you are depressed or in grief. Give a hug to share a joyful moment. It costs nothing. Like a boomerang it comes back to you. Drew Barrymore said she wished she were an octopus so she could give ten people a day hugs. Practice another facet of love in the world. Give someone a hug. It will make you feel GREAT!

Gary - I am a big hugger, so this concept appeals to me.  Keep up the good work!

Gary - The human touch is important to our health.  A hug a day will keep the doctor away!

Teri: I think the ones that are the most squeamish about receiving hugs probably need them the most.

Jason: We always have fun with the group hug laughing about it. What is the term? Show me some love :)

Norma: You are right on track for GREAT emotional health for you and those around you.

I hug almost everyone when I meet up with them (not strangers) and when I leave them.  I always try to say nice things to them during our conversation.  You know like you look great today or that was a good way to handle that.  I also tell all the kids, my home is a place to get away, in this house we support each other and treat each other with respect.  There are plenty of people in the world who will belittle you and criticize what you do.  Don't do it to each other. Good Blog for us touchy feely people.

Kathryn: You are making the world a better place with all your hugs. You might make some you hug turn red in the face because they are not expecting your squeeze, but you know they appreciate it. Thanks for being one of the huggers out there.

Gary - a hug can make a person feel so good.  Same with a pat on the arm.  It always makes me feel like that person really cares.

Karen: It is a sign of gentleness and tenderness in a person. Nice to find those out there that care.

Gary, I enter a client's home and shake hands and leave hugging....love it. I can't believe in the first video no one is taking him up on a Free Hug!

Carole: In the first video the people were apprehensive at first about hugs. That can be normal at first with strangers. Hugs should be spontaneous. Toward the end everyone was hugging. You just have to warm up to it. I think the point is even though they were free people just didn't quite know what to make of the scene. It is a cultural thing too. Many cultures embrace all the time while others hardly ever.

I have never been very touchy, feely but I am learning to deal with it a little at the time.
Posted by JL Boney, III Columbia, SC Real Estate (Russell and Jeffcoat) about 1 year ago
JL: The non-touchy feely types are the ones MOST surprised when someone grabs them and hugs them.

Hi Gary, hugs are great but lions cross the line for me. :)
Posted by Keith Perry - REALTOR® -West Metro Atlanta (Coldwell Banker) about 1 year ago
Gary - I think I am feeling a little cynical tonight so please forgive me. Ok, my client get hugs, but maybe only most of them are deserving of it. See, sometimes I see them for their true colors by the time we get to closing a transaction. I posted last week about how money brings out the evil in some people.
Posted by Carol Culkin (Houlihan Lawrence Realty) about 1 year ago

Keith & Robin: Totally understandable about the lion, but this story had the guy taking care of the maltreated lion and they said somehow this lion responded with affection. Amazing.

Carol: Lose not hope because of others. Money can bring out the worst in people at times as we all see, especially in tough negotiations. But there are a lot of good people around too.

Gary, I just watched the "Free Hugs" You Tube video....and tears just started streaming down my face.......it made me think about how many 'hugs' we hold locked up inside us......hugs that were never given, hugs that were withheld.........hugs that could have made a difference...

Liz: What an awesome observation. Witholding love is a terrible feeling, like lost time, you can't get it back. But we all can start from today. That's not a bad beginning either. When I catch myself judging I really get mad at myself cause I should know better. It's our fallen nature I suppose.

I relate touching with love as well.  Just like Jesus touches us in ways we can never imagine.  Thank you for commenting on my blog.  I praise him for allowing us to be plugged into his source.  Lu

I love that video of Free Hugs.  I need to go make a sign! That was beautiful.  I have seen the lion before. Both great and made my day!

Lu: The Prince of Peace, the source of love.

Evelyn: Wouldn't that be a cool experiment to go around with a sign about Free Hugs? You would definitely draw attention (and hopefully hand out many free hugs).
