Tips For Finding Your Dreams Again

Old Age HomeBuyers in real estate look at dreams as finding that perfect new place to live. Sellers have dreams of pocketing as much on the sale of a house and moving on to the next phase of their life.

But for all of us we need to not allow our dreams to be "deferred." Life and time moves swiftly along. We know at some point if we are lucky to get to old age what is waiting for us with diminished physical energy and mental faculty may be an old age home. Think of it as a lovely scene however you are greeted somehow to resting on a park bench. I think your dream of visiting the Taj Mahal may have passed you by.

So don't wait with your dreams. We really just need a little boost to not let life pass us by. Be proactive in working with your dreams. Re-juvenate them. Why? Because everyone deserves dreams in their life.

Dreams BookHere are some tips to get you back on track with dreams:

Journaling - write down your ideas in your life relative to categories of interest: places to visit, things to do, people to meet, activities to try, the kind of work you like, the kind of play.

Determine your core values, what is most important to you, pick three or four: Family, Faith, Autonomy, Leisure Time, Flexibility, Vacations, People, Charity, Home, Control, Money, Social, Honesty, Competition, Delegation, Serving, Problem Solving, Quality of Work, Security, Power.

Align your dreams with your values.

Sand Castle DreamerSimplify the environment around you - when thinking about dreams - get away, no TV, go to a quiet spot in nature or a restful place in your home.

Dream thinking is serious stuff. It requires your concentration.

Be brutally honest with yourself. Perhaps your old dreams (if you had any) are not where you are today. Be fresh. Be original. Be creative. Perhaps brainstorm on a sheet of paper without judgment. Then narrow it down to the dreams that are the most meaningful to you.

Dream thinking is hard work. But it should be what your life is made up of. Pause soon and do this work. Because time moves on and remember from that first picture up there. That park bench awaits you some day.

If you do the work up front now in building your sandcastles when you reach the park bench you will have nothing but smiles on your face.

Always think great thoughts about you and your life and it will allow you to climb to very lofty heights. The real riches in life are those found inside. Dream first. Then watch things happen.

Gary, Our lives are built on Dreams. For some dreams are just "dreams". However, if one sets their hearth, energy, and mind on any dream, possibilities are endless.

Wow, I'm seeing a theme this morning on AR. Gary, what a great post! I am in my mid 50s and still know how to dream. My dreams help me set my goals. Without my dreams, life would be a rather negative and disturbing place...

Hi Mana: We really need to steer our life in the directions of our dreams. Very good point about hear, energy and mind. Otherwise we just "drift."

Paul: Without dreams we just are having life hit us indirectly with no plan on our part.

Living in a dream world must be nice.  However, those buyers and sellers who contact me about real estate to buy or to sell will quickly get a "reality check".

Dreams have their place.

Facts have theirs.

Gary, besides the Big Why that I finally wrote out two weeks ago, this is a great exercise for me to do before I leave the office today.  Thanks for the reminder...God Bless...Jason

Dreaming is something children do naturally, and then as we grow up, we have to be reminded to do!  Thanks for the reminder!  You are always so uplifting!

Gary, I have been on sabbatical the past two weeks and made it a point to stay away from AR but it is good to be back and read your words of wisdom.

I love your posts about 'dreaming and dream weaving'........sometimes we get so blocked up with 'practicality' that our source for dreaming gets blocked up.........to free flow those ideas is such a good plan........imagine schedule an hour a week to 'dream'........hmmm?

Gary,I love that you steer me to be more philosophical...and strive for my dreams.  My dream is that my family stays healthy and the world becomes a better place to live.   When you have your health you have 99% and you don't have to dream about much more

As you know me I'm more of a black and white kind of person.  You are helping me grow as a better person each and everyday.

Gary - fantastic advice!  I am a firm believer in journals.  I do write my dreams and goals down - amazing how you can achieve them if you have them written down and somewhat defined.

Gary:  Making dreams a reality is indeed hard work.  And just getting started is a tough chore.  Daily activities tend to run amuck in my mind.  Time to quiet down and have some inner inspiration.

Lenn: Dreams often take us to the next reality. Dreams come true.

Jason: I like the Big Why. If you can figure out the why in things, it all starts to make a lot more sense. Why do you not drive through the red light. Good reason. To not be killed.

Pam: Watching children dream gives us that reminder to not forget our own dreams as we get older.

Michelle: I'm very glad you are back in the Rain!!

Hey there Liz: What a terrific idea to free flow our dreams and even block out time for them. I need to do that.

Jay: Thanks, and I hope there were some good reminders in there like the journaling.

Gita: You are welcome. I thank you for stopping by. Always so good to hear from you.

Hi Judy: Thanks so much for your kind words. If we do have our health we have much I agree. If I can expand you into all the colors out there from the black and white I believe this is good. There is much color in life and much that enriches us.

Royal: Be alive with those dreams. Work with them.

Leesa: Something written I have found gets you one step closer to it being real. I'm glad it has worked for you.

Chris Ann: The quieting down I think is essential in dream planning. Got to get rid of the distractions. No easy task for any of us nowadays.

Robert: Thanks for introducing me to the new group on dreams. Dreams of all kinds make us think, about the future or what is lying below in our subconscious.

Gary,

My feeling exactly sir.  Never loose sight of your dreams and if you have it is time to pick them up and dust them off.  Revive them without regret.

Gary.... Dreaming *IS* what keeps us going. I think that is why children are so full of life.. it comes so easy for them.  We as adults need to take time for ourselves and think back on those days.

You couldn't be more right with "dream first and then watch things happen".

That's how major ideas are born!

Sometimes all people do is dream. Which in itself isn't bad, because it's the stepping stone to implementation. We need to MAKE our dreams come true by doing them. I hear so many excuses -- can't, have a mortgage, wait until the kids are grown, or even the "I might fail" excuse, but even failure puts you closer to achieving those dreams. This is all we have. Life. You don't get a second chance.

You say you are a realtor,  but I think you have Life Coach written all over you.     This post was a kick start I needed  - -  it is never too late to chase your dreams.   Defining that dream is the first step.   Thanks!

Gary-What a positive way to analyze your dreams. I think we all have dreams not matter how old we may get. In Real Estate you hear so many young couples talking about their dreams and it makes you feel really good to have a small part in helping them accomplish their dream of buying a home.

Thank you for another great blog.

Posted by Laura Watts (Positive Properties, LLC) about 1 year ago

Don: Keep those dreams alive!!

Charles: All wet for you I am sure if affectionate, so you are in good shape.

Valerie: We all need to revive our dreams.

Connie: Realtor, Life Coach, Stager, we all need dreams. We all need encouragement to be our best.

Laura: I'm glad you can help young people with their dreams. Makes you feel good inside.
