With many in the housing sector working harder and harder each day for seemingly less results than years back, it does seem someone has to give them permission every once in a while to cut back a little and take a break.
You know why?
We All Deserve A Lazy Day !!
That being said, I am the official permission grantor if you needed one. Think of it like a message washed up in a bottle on the shore and lo and behold, what is that paper inside? Well lookey here. It is a note with YOUR name on it all rolled up nice and neat with a message written in fine penmanship and the bluest of blue inks. Funny how those things travel thousands of miles across the ocean from some tropical paradise straight to YOU. Just to deliver a message about rest.
I can't think of a better symbol for taking a Lazy Day off than the hammock. I know the cooler weather is near upon us in many parts of the country but the image is still the same.
Catch your breath every once in awhile and stop being so intense about everything. If it means going for a stroll around the block and trying to capture the season changing in the fall then do that. If it means blowing off the afternoon and seeing a movie by yourself, or with children, or with friends do that.
Just remember, whatever it is, we all deserve a lazy day now and then.

Gary, thanks, I'm going to save my "pass" for a snowy day and stay inside by the fireplace.
Maria: A snowy day inside by the fireplace works for me too!! Great image.
It also goes back to that "sharpening your saw" thing. It's hard to cut wood (make deals happen) when your saw (brain) is dull! :)
Gary...
I need a REAL lazy day. My last lazy day wound up to be a 14 hour ordeal!
Hi Gary. Your posts are always peaceful.
I bet you are a very calming person.
Ken
I have not taken a nap in over 20 years...if I do, somone better call a doctor. My best kind of lazy day is "shopping" or working outside. :)
Gary - what appropriate timing for your post. I'm lazing at the Tradewinds Resort on St Pete Beach with my husband and we're out here playing tourist for the weekend (love that it's only 10 minutes from home).
I couldn't agree more! You are so right. We do need to take a deep breath and relax every now and then. It makes you stronger when your mind is cleared.
It's a Good Life!
Fran
Gary, I could HEAR the song while reading the post :) We all need a little time off and it does wonders for our bodies and souls. It's wonderful to be diligent about work but also about PLAY. And it's way too cold up here for a hammock---brrrrr.
Gary,
Thank you for being the grantor ! Stephanie and I plan on relaxing one of the two weekend days - saturday or sunday - no open houses... no appointments yet !!! We need to relax a little : )
Gary-You really told the truth here. I really need a rest day and plan on having one soon. I thought I could get some today, but too much started happening that needed my attention. So......maybe in the near future, I will just say don't call me, I will call you and turn my cell phone off. LOL Good blog.
Wow, Gary! How'd you know I'm way overdue for a mental health day? LOL Lazy days have been fewer and further between lately, and I'm tired!
Amen. I try really hard to NOT make any appointments on Sundays. Sometimes if my family's off doing other things I'll hit open houses of other agents, but for the most part that's my day of rest/relaxation ... and laundry. Does that count?
I rarely take a day off if it means I have to stay away from my computer. Even today when I didn't need to get up early, I was awake by 6:45 then got up to make coffee and let Chanel out. So much for sleeping in!
Do I dare admit that I NEVER have a problem giving myself permission to take some"lazy time"?:0)
Nope! Never!
Gary - Thanks for giving us permission to take a day off. As you know, with a day off to recharge your batteries is a good thing.
Hi Shannon: Sharpening the saw, one of the seven habits of highly effective people. Very good.
Richard: That sounds like those vacation ordeals I have been on every now and then.
Ken: I am a calm person, good guess.
Ruthman: Shop till you drop or work outside.
Sharon Simms: Enjoy that Tradewinds with you and your husband. Great stuff!!
Fran: A clear mind is great for relaxation.
Carole: No NY hammocks this time of year. Just snuggle inside or go out to a show.
Christopher: Enjoy at least one of the weekend days off.
Hi Pat Preston: We all have those crazy days now enjoy a lazy day yourself with no all nighters.
Laura: Sooner rather than later.
Carol: Mental Health days are totally fine. Enjoy the time.
Erica: Making time for Sundays off is good.
Hi Lizette: Do whatever feels right as it is ok.
Hello Joan: Good for you on taking time when you need it.
Sharon Richards: Recharge. That is what it is all about.
I keep waiting for things to slow down so that I can get my lazy day. Who knows when it will happen, but I am ever hopeful it comes soon!
Hey Gary,
Ha, these are never a problem for me. We refer to them as "recovery" days in coaching.
Hi Steve: It's great you're staying active.
Hello Lynda: I like those recovery days. We need to plot them out on the calendar : )
HI Gary! I schedule GNO's (girls night out).... every month with a special group of friends. We dine at the same place-at the same table-I work half day-dress up and have a mental health session for my soul. I'm worth it!
Cathy: You are definitely worth it my friend. Glad you have that girls night out system worked out.
My R&R time is almost daily when I go out to take pictures. Income would help me relax a bit more!
I recently took a lazy 1/2 half day, and then the next day had to work twice as hard.
I really like your post! I call these 'mental health' days.
I agree Gary We do deserve a lazy day every now and then
Thanks
Don
Thanks Gary. It is the mind that won't stop working these days. I might take a day off to enjoy the beautiful fall weather but the wheels upstairs just keep grinding away.
Gary, you're preaching to the choir here. Nearing the half century mark, I've never missed a year where we have treked to a sandy DelMarVa beach,... well, until recent. It has been over two years and I desperately need some salty sand between my toes. Not knocking the walk around the block, but I don't think that will even begin to scratch that itch.
No R & R makes agents very stale. Have fun, enjoy life. Your business will survive and thrive if you are rested and are at your best.
Gary--Loved your post as usual...Great message to take time and relax. It is good for the soul. :)
Gary,
I couldn't agree with you more! The best recipe for getting my head back together is usually a few days off from the work schedule.
Hi Gary, I enjoyed reading your post. Mental health days are soooo important. I am a better me after I take the time.
We just took a quick trip...that's another blog...and it was an invigorating "come back"...a shot of energy when we returned....you do have to give yourself permisson to say nothing of the business that always piles up when you want to leave town...regular time off IS a business builder...and an energizer....thanks for giving us the permission we sometimes need to have !
I love lazy days Gary. Sometimes, the only truly, truly lazy days are bad cold days because you don't need to feel guilty for laying around in your pj's all day, sipping soup and moaning about life! I am insufferable when I am sick because I am a whiner. That way I see it, if you can't whine about it, why bother to be sick!
Gary, Thanks for the inspiration. Sometimes, if I don't have time for the "Lazy Day" I'll just take a lazy hour or two to recharge in the park. Out of the office, into the sunshine...it does wonders.
just stopped in this morning to see what's up with Gary. Lazy days... hmmm nice sound to it. reminds me of being a kid and just hanging around. I too am going to carry my lazy day pass from Gary in my pocket - sort of as a just in case.. sweet!
Gary - I don't know about a lazy day, but I try to "take a lazy few hours" every once in awhile... :)
I would prefer a beach day, but snowy will work as well...
Thanks,
Sean
gary, I love the lazy days. I am much more productive after of day of chilling out and not thinking, it is healthy for the brain, and body. Congratulations on a great feature and a reminder to all 24/7 Realtors.
Gary, my husband has been saying this for months! Thanks for the confirmation.
Gary: There is nothing better in this world than a hammock and a cool breeze. That mental image relaxes me immediately. I'm taking a day for me today. I'm going shopping. :)
Gary - I loved the message the pictures portrayed one look and I was thinking of a warm beach somewhere on the Florida gulf coast and the hammock was a pleasant reminder of where I spend some of my "spare" time relaxing and reading
You know Gary, this really sounds like a plan. Now if I could only get a hammock into the movie theater, then I would be on to something.
Gary: Thank you! Yesterday was a day I have to admit I didn't feel like working. So I took off early, came home and took a nap. Now I feel like I can enjoy the weekend. Keep up the positive posts; it's not easy these days for us.
What a plan, I love to take my day about once a month and go walk on the beach and the waves rolling along. I wonder if you got into a big bottle how far you could go.
Directly across from my home office desk is a 62" HDTV with surrond sound. It is never on during the day, except Sunday! Direct TV NFL package in HD, two recliners, popcorn, sorry, I have an appointment on Sunday...
so you are telling me, I mean giving me permission to just sti around and watch football , eat food, and not go to the gym or near the email today ?? - I think I am going to take your sage advice!
I took your advise yesterday. It was nice.
We all need some time off eventually. I find myself increasingly working harder to bring in buyers. After so long though you get burned out and need a break.

Thank you my friend, we all need to take time out for ourselves just to clear our thought and refocus.
Gary - I'm just loving this post! It's too cold here in CT to relax outside in a hammock but that picture looks like an image of me when I crash on my couch on those days when I just need to get away from it all. :-)
Well said Gary. I love my work but not as much as I love my family. I absolutely know it's critical for all of us to take some time for ourselves. You're no good to anybody if you're not good to yourself. Good luck and God Bless.
Got to have those days off, if anythings it really increases production.
Gary, thank you! Thank you! I find it sort of hard to do a lazy day without feeling a little guilty! Where does that come from?
Much needed Post! Great reminder
We all have to take time to recharge and appreciate life's blessings.
Where do I get the hammock????
My associates: Minnesota Japanese Landscape St. Paul Windows DLP Lamps Minnesota web design
Gary - I decided to take some times with the boys, their choice was a movie. The problem with me going to the movies is; I go to sleep.
Speaking of hammocks too cold here to use one but I noticed the leaves are enjoying mine...Lol
I had a great benefit this last week - a good friend of mine was on an awesome vacation - and I got to share in the little pictures, texts, etc along the way ---- so I had a little rest in the hammock without actually even leaving :)
Gary, you are so right. We all work very hard and endlessly to make sure all gets done and to make sure there are the next people in line. Sometimes, we do need to take some time out for ourselves and yet most of the time the guilt comes into play if we think of taking that time.
Your bottle came at an excellent time. Thank you. I needed that.
Gary... I could use a couple lazy days per year... Where is my message in the bottle ?
Well, I am taking more than a day off............I am taking two weeks off to visit warm and sunny Palm Springs. Back home on Cape Cod, the weather has turned much cooler. Thus, visiting Palm Springs is extending my summer weather. However, I still do some work while on vacation. :)
This month is going to be very lazy for me... I'm going to a destination wedding in two weeks in St Thomas, hopefully it won't rain the entire time- its rainy season, and then going to the Bahamas for Thanksgiving. Will the computer stay home.... I'm not sure! What do you think
Ahhhhhhh Gary, thanks for the permission. I love it. Sometimes some of my favorite things are just doing absolutely nothing! Hanging out, catching up & just being comfortable. You have to every once & awhile. You have to get lazy & rejuvinate yourself. KM
Gary - Thank you for granting me my lazy day! You must have known I was starting to burn out!
I would love to have a lazy day, but after the weekend I have too much work to catch up on.....maybe Wednesday.
